DESCRIPTION:Students will weave these striking snowflakes from hardwood maple and cherry wood splint. Several patterns may be woven\, depending on the chosen splint. Students will weave one large 10″ diameter snowflake\, and two smaller 7″ snowflakes\, which make a beautiful grouping hung together on a tree or in a window. UFO Studio is free to attend\, and though it is non-instructional\, peer-to-peer help is always available. All forms of projects are welcome ? bring your unfinished weaving\, sewing\, embroidery\, rug hooking\, knitting\, crocheting\, felting\, or any other project that involves fiber handwork. AFS has a couple of sewing machines\, small looms\, and hand tools available but please feel free to bring your own!

DESCRIPTION:In this class students will design\, shape and carve a serving spoon. Skills explored include: making a template and transferring it to a blank\, carving and shaping the bowl and back of the spoon\, use of hand tools such as gouges\, scrapers\, coping saws\, and spokeshaves\, and sanding and finishing techniques. Students will leave class with a beautiful\, handcrafted hardwood spoon to use in their own kitchens or to give as a gift!

DESCRIPTION:Join Marjolaine in this 1-day class to create a nuno felt scarf you can wear different ways and close with a button. During this workshop you will explore the technique of nuno felt\, a wet felting process combining silk fabric and wool roving. The felting is accomplished by applying water\, soap\, and friction. In this class you will: create a lightweight scarf made with silk fabric and merino wool roving\, discover various wool layouts\, create a stained-glass effect\, and paint with silk hankies and silk roving on wool.

SUMMARY:Traditional Herbal Practice: Wildcrafting-Plants of Winter
DESCRIPTION:As the Winter Solstice nears\, a blanket of silence covers the natural world. Each turning of the year’s wheel inspires us to pause\, listen\, observe & learn. So\, let’s attune ourselves to what Winter is offering. We will take a look at the energy of the plant world while connecting the dots to the many ways in which human and animal respond in kind. In this class we will head outdoors to harvest in the wild and take what we receive back into the classroom. Based on what’s in our baskets\, we’ll use traditional extraction method practices to get the beneficial compounds out of the plants and into our bodies. In this make and take experience\, you can expect to go home with two herbal preparations based on supporting our wellness needs as we enter into the dark and cold months to come. In this class we will be seeking to harvest plants which support the upper respiratory system\, as well as working with other plants that increase heat\, chi and nourishment. While it’s impossible to predict “who” will be available for us to work with\, what I can share is that in past winter classes we’ve made: Tinctures\, Herbal Electuaries\, Warming/Circulatory Support Infusions\, Methods for working with Dried plant material\, Herbal Infused Chocolate Truffles.
