SUMMARY:Mariner's Compass
DESCRIPTION:This is a challenging and classic quilt block. The Acuquilt system cuts and organizes the pieces for you. The step by step process\, while challenging\, creates a block to be proud of. One complete compass creates a 12? x 12? block. Ideas for projects to incorporate the block will be shared. The blocks created in the block party classes will be cut using the Acuquilt cutting system. This system improves accuracy in cutting and reduces the stress on your hands often felt while cutting large amounts of small units of fabric for the quilt blocks.

SUMMARY:Shaker Cathead Basket
DESCRIPTION:The Shaker Community\, founded in New York\, is known for their design aesthetic\, combining form and function in simply elegant ways. This class introduces students to the Cathead base\, a Shaker classic. In this form\, a small\, square-base\, grows into a round basket\, at the diameter and height of the student’s choosing. This particular technique of weaving corners\, produces four “feet” upon which the basket rests. This creates a raised base on the inside of the basket\, allowing its contents to first fill the perimeter of the basket\, and then the center. Disbursing the weight of the basket contents\, first to the perimeter\, serves to prevent produce from becoming bruised\, and protects the center of the basket from wearing out. Students will weave a two-by-two twill pattern for both the base and the sides of the basket.

SUMMARY:Saori Scarf Weaving
DESCRIPTION:Saori Weaving is a freestyle form of weaving. A weaving technique known as clasp weft will be used. The selection of yarns and color is the main attraction with this scarf\, which will be completed with twisted fringe. The looms will be warped and ready to go. Hand spun art yarn created by the instructor is included in the material cost\, as well as a selection of commercially spun yarn to balance the structure. If you knit or crochet there’s a chance you have a stash of yarn that isn’t enough for a project than you just can’t part with. Bring it along to use or add to the collection of choices. This is a perfect stash busting project! The summer session will use yarns suitable for warmer weather.

SUMMARY:Rings with Sterling Silver Metal Clay
DESCRIPTION:Sterling alloys in clay form are stronger than pure silver and easy to work with making it ideal for ring making.  It is possible to either purchase a .950 sterling clay or make a .960 clay (a 50/50 combination of pure silver clay and .925 sterling clay).  The emphasis in this class will be on making rings\, but you are also welcome to use some of your clay to make other items as well.  While this class is ideal for those with metal clay experience\, it is open to anyone with an interest in learning metal clay techniques for making rings with metal clay.

The class is paced to allow time for questions and interaction\, with about half of the day in the classroom experimenting with the cameras\, and the other half spent in the field\, practicing camera techniques and shooting options. A comprehensive handout will include all the major points covered in the presentation.
