Viking Helmet

August 10 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

A few years ago, Bob and his son (who has very little forging experience) took on the project of making “Viking” helmets.  It turned out to be an incredibly fun and satisfying project and at the time Bob thought what a great class this would make. In this class students will make a personal sized spangenhelm style helmet with or without a simple nose guard. The helmet will include a leather liner/suspension system for comfort.  This ribbed method of construction was a simple, yet effective way of making a helmet far more quickly than creating a helmet from a single piece of iron plate. Topics to be covered during the class will include how to develop the necessary patterns for the various pieces needed, cutting, shaping, and assembling those pieces, and creating and attaching the leather liner.
