American Tinsmithing Basics- November 2022
Learn basic 19th Century American tinsmithing from a master tinsmith. This class will introduce you to and teach you about all the tools, forming stakes, swedges and hand-operated machines used in a well-equipped 19th-Century tin shop. You will be shown how to do basic layout work, cutting, forming, assembly and soldering. Complete both a finger candle stick and a wall sconce by the end of class. You will be amazed at what you’ve accomplished.

Autumn Leaves: Intro to Working with Copper- September 2022
Copper is a very different material from iron and is capable of being finished in beautiful ways. This class will cover the basics of non-ferrous forging, including annealing and work hardening, as well as finishes and patinas. Students will start with a bar of copper that will be worked hot and cold to form a maple leaf. Then the instructor will share an ancient and closely guarded secret technique, which gives the leaves a red and gold finish.

Copper Bowl- September 2022
In this class students will create a beautiful copper bowl from a 12″ x 12″ sheet of 16 gauge copper. Students will pound and hand tool the sheet into an 8″ diameter, approx. 2″ deep bowl. Students will also make a decorative vine with leaves from copper that will be attached to the rim of the bowl. Some soldering will be involved in this class.

Intro to Sheet Metal – Halloween Bat- September 2022
Students will start with a mild steel cutout of a Halloween bat, which they can decorate using punches, chisels and other hot and cold techniques. Then, students will learn how to bend and curve sheets of metal. The final result is a 3-D hand forged decoration, perfect for Halloween.

Learn the discipline of Metal Working known as Embossing. Students will transfer an image of their choosing from a paper template to a sheet of copper by using various sizes of stylus and other hand tools to create a textured picture. Students will find that copper is a very workable material. Your finished piece will fit in with any Adirondack decor or even in a rustic birch frame! This piece is 12″ x 12″.

Silver Metal Clay Exploration- August 2022
Explore the many ways that you can use silver in a metal clay formulation to create jewelry designs of your own. The newest way of working with silver is metal clay which can be shaped like clay to produce uniquely textured surfaces, resulting in durable beautiful silver jewelry. Students will learn metal clay working techniques and make pendants, earrings, charms and rings. Fresh leaves will also be used to create a silver piece of nature. The class will also cover techniques for setting and firing stones directly in metal clay. Each student will leave with at least four finished pieces of jewelry. No previous experience necessary.

Tin Ornaments- November 2022
Christmas time in the Adirondacks is a magical time of year. In this tinsmithing class you will make multiple festive holiday ornaments in a variety of designs including icicles, spirals, snowflakes and angels, in addition to your own unique designs! No previous tinsmithing experience is necessary in this class. Perfect for students 12 and older, this is a great class for the whole family!
