Blacksmithing

This 4-hour class is ideal for the beginner blacksmith with little to no experience. We'll learn to use a coal forge and explore basic techniques first, then move on to forging hooks with a decorative twist. ABANA

Nothing shows the artistry of hand forged work more than decoratives twists or finials. Explore a variety of theses descorative elementswith Jordan Mauro in this one-day class. Prior blacksmithing experience is helpful but not required.

Interested in blacksmithing but unsure how to start? Open Forge Night is the place for you! Every third Wednesday of the month during our blacksmithing season, come see demonstrations by expert blacksmith Steve Gurzler. Observing the demonstration is free and open to the public. If you want to try your hand at blacksmithing there is a $20 fee to cover the cost of materials. Safety precautions must be followed - including hard shoes with no open toes, long pants, goggles (supplied) and gloves (supplied).

In this class students will forge a rose that will not wither using precut steel blanks. The project will include forging details and torch work with scrolling tongs to create a custom rose.

There are times when a blacksmith needs to assemble parts or make a tool when traditional joinery is inefficient. In this class we will cover the basics of MIG and Stick Welding, equipment recommendations, making crack repairs, and fabricating a simple tool or jig. Bring your own welding mask and gloves if you have them. You?ll have time to practice what you?ve learned and receive coaching from a professional welder.
