Small Wall Basket

In this class, students will learn many basket weaving tips and techniques while completing their wall basket. Woven with natural and dyed reed, students will learn how to shape their basket and how to carve their handle. A decorative bow is added to finish this piece and add a special touch. Completed baskets stand about 7.25? wide and 5.5? high before the handle is added.

Chip Carved Optical Illusion Plate

The simple triangular chip can be used to create many interesting, unusual patterns such as this one on an optical illusion plate; creating the illusion of roundness on a flat plane. Each student will receive a 10" plate with the triangular chip pattern already applied. Carving out half of the chips will create the illusion. Once stained or painted, students will have an attractive piece to hang on the wall or display on a table. The plate is sure to surprise and interest all who see it!

Handforged Skillet

In this 2 day workshop, students will learn basic sheet metal forging and riveted construction. Starting with a steel disk, learn to shape a simple skillet body and forge a decorative riveted handle. Create a functional and decorative piece of cookware to last a lifetime!

Carving Basics

Students will learn the correct way to use tools, set up a shop for the best results, position work and use lighting to their advantage. Basic forms will be explored and a beautiful study board is kept for future reference. A must for anyone interested in learning both the basics and the finer points of carving. Students can bring their own carving tools or buy available tools. Advance notice is required if tools are required. A basic kit will be available or recommended.

Rugs from Rags

No weaving experience is necessary! The looms are dressed and ready to go, all you need to do is bring your creative spirit and to leave with a finished one-of-a-kind rug. Students will have a choice of making a traditional Rag Rug using recycled fabric strips or making a Sock Rug using remnants from a sock factory. Colors and choices of fabric and remnants vary from class to class depending on availability. The rugs are 24" wide, and up to 45" long.

Soft and Scrappy

This lap quilt is fast and easy and requires no quilting. Three layers of flannel are used to add warmth and color. The Acuquilt system does all the cutting for you. This lap quilt could be a memory quilt with the inclusion of bits of cloth from the clothing of a loved one. Perhaps clothes your child wore as a baby can be included, bringing back memories of their childhood. You could also fussy cut a flannel fabric with fun images and create an ?eye spy? quilt. The blocks created in the block party classes will be cut using the Acuquilt cutting system. This system improves accuracy in cutting and reduces the stress on your hands often felt while cutting large amounts of small units of fabric for the quilt blocks.

Copper Pine Branch Wall Hanging

Create your own pine branch wall hanging with vines, leaves, and pinecones. Different size pipe will be pounded and textured on an anvil to make the branches and vines. The leaves and cones will be made from sheet copper, then textured. This class will also involve some soldering. The finished piece will be approximately 25" by 17".

You will learn to cut a stencil, choose a pattern and the odors of your choice. Several different techniques will be taught as well. The use of painted floor coverings or "Oyl cloths" dates to 14th century Europe. People coming to this country wanted to reproduce furnishings from back home. Since resources were limited, worn sails from ships were painted and used to cover their floors. Floorcloths proved to be one of the most durable floorcoverings providing extra insulation on the floors of drafty homes. Create your own artful and durable floorcloth that will last for generations.

Perfect Pictures Every Time

Understanding photography basics is the key to taking control of your camera and knowing you got the shot when you were taking it. If you would like to take your skill level from shooting in Auto to having full control over your camera, this intensive class is for you! A step-by-step PowerPoint presentation helps teach the basic principles of photography including: camera options and set-up, peripheral equipment, image exposure and histograms, and will touch on shooting for HDR and working with motion, depth of field, and composition. The class is paced to allow time for questions and interaction, with about half of the day in the classroom experimenting with the cameras, and the other half spent in the field, practicing camera techniques and shooting options. A comprehensive handout will include all the major points covered in the presentation. While the class instruction is mostly landscape based, these techniques and principles can be applied to all photographic situations.

Fall Lakes and Waterways at Dawn Photo Tour

Here's your chance to grab gorgeous sunrise shots. In this one-day nature photography tour you will travel to several destinations that are all within a reasonable distance of each other. You'll spend 90% of the day shooting pictures at beautiful nearby Adirondack lakes and waterways. This nature photography tour is designed for those who are already comfortable with camera basics such as the relationship between aperture, shutter and ISO settings. Start this eight-hour day with a very brief discussion, then take the rest of the day to play with photo techniques in the field at nearby photo locations. A great class for those who wish to receive mentoring while in the field.
