Lucas Novko

Lucas Novko has been blacksmithing for over 9 years, starting as a volunteer at Hanford Mills Museum in East Meredith, NY and continuing to learn the craft primarily through self teaching in the Field Blacksmith Shop at Fenimore Farm (formerly the Farmers’ Museum) in Cooperstown, NY. While growing up Lucas spent many seasons visiting the Field Shop in Cooperstown, which is what initially sparked their interest in the craft at a young age. Three years ago, Lucas began their personal blacksmithing business, Griever Forge and works on pieces inspired by historic examples, focusing specifically on the 18th and early 19th centuries as well as the occasional medieval-style work. Their work ranges from traditional hardware to household appliances, trades tools to cookware. In producing these pieces, Lucas sticks to the known tools and methods traditionally used by early American smiths in centuries past and accomplishes this through intense research whether by analyzing original artifacts or by looking through written sources and illustrations.
