Mac Petrequin
Mac began with a banjo in 1976, learning the Scruggs and Keith styles from records, Earl’s book, and anything in print.
Rhythm guitar followed around 1980, with Mac playing and singing Grateful Dead songs. Soon after Mac got an upright bass and learned enough on it to join a bluegrass band and fill their need.
He played bass and sang for the bands “Dyer Switch” and “Burnt Hills Bluegrass” for about 18 years.
Mac played banjo and dobro with the band “Out of the Bluegrass” which was formed with old friends Bert Wilson (bass), Jeff Belding (guitar), and Pete Conklin (mandolin). OOBG was the winner of the 2015 Jenny Brook Bluegrass Festival Band Contest and continues to be an active band.
Since then Mac has played with the bands “Just Passin’ Thru”, “Beartracks”, and ”The High Peaks Bluegrass Band.”
Mac has retired teaching high school math and is a maker of “Petre-tin” cookie-tin banjos. He has also written songs, and taught banjo privately and at the Adirondack Folk School in Lake Luzerne.
