• Introduction to Woodturning

    To every season turn, turn, turn! This course is for people who have an interest in learning how to turn. The emphasis will be on learning how to use the lathe and tools safely and correctly. In this class you will learn the basics of creating spindle-based objects. Then you will use your new-found skills to create a candlestick and a wooden pen. Friends and family will be truly impressed! You'll need to take this class before moving on to the more advanced turning classes.

  • Chenille Scarf

    Want to try out weaving on a floor loom? This class starts with a loom all set up and ready to go - no prior weaving experience is needed! Keep the winter chill away with a scarf you weave yourself. Each class will include an introduction to the loom and instruction on how to operate it. Several color choices will be available. You'll be weaving away in no time!

  • Epoxy Inlaid Cheese Board

    In this class, students will create a beautiful cutting board using various woods and epoxy inlay. The wood will be cut to size on a table saw, and students will use a planer after gluing the pieces together. An epoxy accent will be poured to add a striking colored detail to the cutting board, with the option of adding glittering stones to make it a truly unique piece.

  • T-Shirt Memory Quilt

    In this class students will learn how to cut and stabilize t-shirts to be used in a "memory" t-shirt quilt. Some editing of materials may be necessary. Guidance for fabric choices of sashing and background colors will be given. On day 2 students will lay out and size their blocks and begin sewing. Options for quilting will be discussed. On day 3 students will finish their quilts by applying the borders, binding and label. Homework will be assigned between each class date. Students will need to bring their own t-shirt collection, a rotary cutter and cutting mat for day 1. Materials for days 2 & 3 will be discussed during class. Some knowledge of sewing/quilting is helpful.

  • Beekeeping Boot Camp

    This basic Beekeeping Boot Camp will cover an introduction to beekeeping, honeybee health and equipment. You will be given information and handouts to assist you if you decide to become a beekeeper. The last section of this bootcamp will cover how to assemble the necessary equipment to get started if you decide to do so. We will discuss how and where to obtain honeybees and equipment. Students may even walk away with a door prize!

  • Balsam Fir Pillow Valentines

    In this class, originally developed by artists Susie and Betsy Brandt, we'll be hand stitching Valentine themed aromatic balsam pillows with a fun, modern twist. Using balsam fir needles, velveteen fabric, glass beads, and sequins, we'll create three different pillows inspired by the raised beadwork of the Tuscarora people and the rich history of balsam fir use in the Adirondacks. These are great for use in a dresser, closet, car or anywhere you would enjoy the fragrance! Pillows are approximately 5" in height. No prior experience or sewing machine required.

  • Mosaic Stepping Stones for Your Garden

    Enhance your garden or outdoor space with a splash of mosaic color! Create inspiring birds, flowers and butterflies on a "garden stone", (various shapes to choose from). Bring your idea or sketch along to this workshop, and capture your image in tile, stone and glass... to create a colorful artwork that will enhance your garden or yard for years to come. Beginner to experienced artists welcome! Students will utilize brightly colored porcelain tiles, as well as glass tiles, stained glass, seashells and pebbles. (Bring a couple of permanent items to add to your project, if you'd like!) Kate has all the '"tesserae", tools and expertise you'll need to shape your pieces and set them in mortar, which will comprise our first day of work. Day two will be a shorter day, grouting and admiring your finished piece, which will be ready to take home! Artist Kate Hartley, who created the North Creek Mosaic Project Mural with over 2000 volunteers, will guide you in bringing your own vision into mosaic form. She's been teaching visual arts to people of all ages for four decades, and delights in encouraging individual expression in artists of all experience levels.

  • Drawing Timber Frame Plans

    Behind every timber frame stands a set of drawings - plans that turn an idea into a buildable structure. This 2.5-day weekend course gives you the skills to draft your own timber frame plans by hand, using traditional methods that connect design directly to building. You'll start with the basics of drafting: tools, techniques, and conventions for creating clear, accurate plans. Then, you'll take your drawings off the page and practice the basic mortise and tenon joinery. This is an immersive class that blends drawing and some joinery practice. Expect guided lessons, demonstrations, and plenty of time both at the drafting board and using hand tools to cut the joinery. No prior experience is necessary for this course.
