Description
Studio Time at the AFS Blacksmith Shop gives you the chance to put your blacksmithing skills to work on your own projects or to finish a project started in class. Some smithing experience is required. The AFS has a fully equipped smithy with coal and gas forges and all of the tools needed for basic blacksmithing work. Studio time is not a class, and while a volunteer or instructor will be present, this is not a teaching situation. Their job is to help keep you and the tools safe and to know where things are in the shop. Open Studio Time includes coal or gas for the forges and some other consumables. You may bring your own materials, or purchase mild steel stock from the Folk School. There may be some scrap steel available for practice in the scrap bin.

Special Notes: The ability to clean, light, use, and shut down a coal or gas forge is required. If you need to be taught these things, there is an additional $10 fee payable to the staff. Studio Time is limited to 6 participants. Advanced reservations are required. A minimum of 2 participants is required for Studio Time to run, please check ahead of time to be sure the minimum has been met.
