• Weaving Twill

    In this class you will design an item of your choosing (scarf, table runner, place mats, etc.) and go through the entire process to create it on a floor loom using the twill structure. Guidance from the instructor will be provided as needed. This class will include instruction on floating selvages and hem stitching. Many fiber options and color choices will be available. Intro to Floor Loom Weaving experience, including winding a warp and dressing a loom is required.

  • UFO Studio

    AFS UFO Studio, formerly known as Sewing Circle, is an out of this world opportunity for fiber artists to come and complete the UnFinished Objects floating around their home. UFO Studio is free to attend, and though it is non-instructional, peer-to-peer help is always available. All forms of projects are welcome ? bring your unfinished weaving, sewing, embroidery, rug hooking, knitting, crocheting, felting, or any other project that involves fiber handwork. AFS has a couple of sewing machines, small looms, and hand tools available but please feel free to bring your own!

  • Rugs from Rags

    No weaving experience is necessary! You will be making a Rag Rug using recycled fabric. Many colors and designs of fabrics will be available for you to choose from. The looms are dressed and ready to go: all you need to do is bring your creative spirit and you will leave with a finished one-of-a-kind rug that you have designed and woven yourself. Your rug will be 24? wide and can be up to 45? long.

  • Rug Hooking with Yarn

    The concept of rug hooking with yarn takes on a new dimension when weaving with yarn. The choices of color and texture in the yarns do much of the work for you. Janet will bring samples of rugs she has made to introduce the concept of designing your own rugs. The pattern and wool are included in the materials cost. Students will have the option to purchase the rug hooking hook after class if they wish.

  • Rigid Heddle Weaving from the Start

    In this extended class you will learn to warp the rigid heddle loom. On the second day you will complete your scarf and the instructor will demonstrate several techniques that expand the design capacity on this basic loom. You will complete a 54" scarf with fringe. For this class you will use two skeins of knitting yarn. Sport or DK will give you a warp scarf. A fingering weight could work and will yield a softer, light weight scarf. You will need two skeins of yarn with a minimum of 220 yards on each. If you would like the instructor to provide materials, please let us know at the time of registration fand a materials fee will be added to y our registration.

  • Introduction to Botanical Eco Printing

    Print the peak color of the Adirondacks onto a cozy wrap using locally abundant native and invasive plants. Ecoprinting is a natural dyeing technique that creates beautiful botanical prints on fabric from fresh or dried plants. Participants will create a unique wearable art piece and we?ll discuss preparing fabric for dye, sustainable foraging, and how to create clear, crisp images of plants on textiles.

  • Felt a Fun & Fabulous Flower

    Learn to wet felt a flower in your choice of colors using a plastic resist. Wear it to hold a scarf, decorate a favorite hat or lapel, or to embellish your favorite outfit!

  • Make Your Own Quilted Sneakers

    Have you ever dreamed of owning a pair of sneakers that are uniquely you? This is your chance to make the sneakers of your dreams. Whether you piece your fabric or quilt your favorite fabric, you will be stepping out in style! This class requires basic machine and hand sewing knowledge. A list of fabric and equipment requirements will be sent out after registration. Students will need to inform AFS of their shoe size at registration.
