Backpacker Guitar

Come join us in the making of your very own handmade Backpacker guitar. Drawing from over 35 years of instrument making, Martin Macica will share his knowledge of the principles and practice of guitar making, leading participants through the process of making their own versatile backpacker guitar.  Participants will leave the class with a working knowledge of guitar making and a handcrafted instrument ready for years of making music while traveling and adventuring.

Wooden Cross-Country Skis

Learn to build old-time traditional cross-country skis and preserve a piece of North Country history. You will cut, plane and bend using a variety of woodworking techniques to complete a set of wood skis. Imagine the fulfillment of skiing the beautiful Adirondack trails and woods on hand-made skis. Uncle Sven would be proud.

Holiday Globes

Students will have a set of 4 clear globes. Learn to loop stitch with waxed linen over the globes creating a lacy looking ornament. The globes can be filled with glitter or a little treasure making each one unique. Students should be able to complete anywhere from one to all four globes during class. Globes are 2" in diameter.

Herbal infused vinegar is easy to make and wonderful to take! Learn how adding just a few simple, fresh ingredients can enhance the scientifically proven curative power of apple cider vinegar. As we chop, we'll discuss the variety of internal, external, and household applications, the many benefits of apple cider vinegar itself and the added value of combining it with wild plants, cultivated herbs and veggies. During this class you will have the opportunity to make and take Margo's tried and true "must make" Fire Cider Vinegar formula for Immune system support and increasing circulation and heat during cold weather imbalances.

Crewelwork Embroidery

Historically, wherever there was wool and fabric, there has been embroidery, and the Adirondacks are no exception. In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of crewelwork embroidery. Students will use a variety of stitches to create a decorative crewelwork embroidery design step by step.

Chip Carved Ornaments or Coasters

Using traditional chip carving with small knives, students will carve attractive, intricate patterns into 4" basswood disks, stars or squares that can be used as either Christmas tree ornaments or coasters. All students will receive and carve a basswood board with practice designs and then use the same designs to carve into the ornaments or coasters. Decorate your own tree or give as a holiday gift! This class is for intermediate or advanced carvers.
