On the second day, you will create a unique mosaic pattern on your coaster using Vitreous Glass whole tiles. You may choose 2 color preferences per coaster. We will use Weld Bond as our adhesive to glue the tiles to the base. (glue needs to dry overnight) On the third day, we will grout each coaster with a natural gray grout and clean with sponges. (grout needs to dry overnight) On the fourth day, we will continue to clean off any residue left on the tile from the grout. We will finish them with an antique oil finish. These coasters will give a welcome touch of color to any room in your home as they hold your favorite mug. They make great gifts as well!

Murray's Fools Distillery- May 2025
In the summer of 1869, the Adirondack Mountains were overrun. Thousands of middle-class urbanites from Boston and New York abandoned the comfort of their homes and rushed into the unknown, northern wilderness. The hordes of city dwellers included men, women and even entire families. They sought a storied wilderness of great restorative and even curative powers.
These would-be adventurers were informed by one man, W.H.H. Murray, a preacher from Boston, and his book Adventures in the Wilderness or Camp Life in the Adirondacks. They heeded his words and followed.
Randall S. Beach, the great-great grandson of Murray, will present a talk on the life of Murray and the impact that his book, Adventures in the Wilderness, has had on the Adirondacks and outdoor life in America.

National Curriculum Level 1- August 2025
The National Curriculum offers a step-by-step progression through three levels of fundamental blacksmithing skills. Certification signifies that a smith has demonstrated mastery of a specific set of skills, increasing in complexity with each level: Level I (beginner), Level II (intermediate), Level III (advanced). Level I is the first level of the curriculum and is designed as a guide through beginning blacksmithing techniques. Starting with safety, Level I then moves into core skills and techniques, including tapering, bending, forging and heat-treating hand tools, punching and drifting, basic blacksmithing math, forging to dimension, forge-welding, and creating tenons. It culminates in a final project, the Gate Latch, designed to test the student on these skills. Upon completion of Level I, students will have confidence in the most essential blacksmithing skills and be able to forge a wide variety of projects. The program is designed to provide a solid foundation within the craft. To earn certification, the student needs to successfully complete the projects and techniques as outlined in the checklist in the Level I Student Packet. This is found on the website abana.org The checklist allows students and instructors to keep track of progress. ABANA will accept the recommendation from an Affiliate's Education Program Chair or the judgment of a Certified Level I Instructor that qualifies a student as having passed Level I.

Nordic-Baltic Pick Up Band Weaving- April 2025
Whether you are an experienced weaver or just a beginner, pick-up band weaving on the inkle loom is a portable, satisfying, and surprisingly easy way to create elaborate patterns with minimal equipment. The pick-up technique is used in many weaving traditions, and the finished products can be made into bookmarks, dog leashes, instrument and purse straps, and belts. We will focus on traditional Nordic and Baltic pick-up weaving using linen and wool threads. We will begin by getting familiar with the inkle loom, practicing the basic weaving technique, and learning how to read a pattern, and then we will start working on our projects. Depending on how quickly you weave, you may create a couple of bookmarks or a longer strap that can be used for a bag, camera, or musical instrument. On the second day, we will go over warping the inkle loom so that you have the skills you need to do it on your own later.
