The goal of this course is to apply our basic embroidery skills to embellish a recycled piece of apparel. This could include any item of clothing, tea towels, pillowcases or any other item that could use a freshening-up. It is recommended that students have some experience with embroidery basics. Students should bring an item of clothing or other fabric item to embroider.

In this class you will design an item of your choosing (scarf, table runner, place mats, etc.) and go through the entire process to create it on a floor loom using the twill structure. Guidance from the instructor will be provided as needed. This class will include instruction on winding a warp with two threads at a time and weaving with two shuttles. Many fiber options and color choices will be available.

Inlay is a traditional weaving technique that has existed for centuries in many cultures. Most weavers are familiar with the basic premise of using inlay to create patterns in cloth. The approach provided in this class will expand upon this tradition by using words as the basis for the patterns that are laid-in to the cloth. As a result, the boundaries of the craft can be expanded to allow weavers to incorporate elements from calligraphy, book arts, poetry, printing, folklore, and storytelling. With the goal to inspire weavers to expand their repertoire of decorative approaches, this class will provide step-by-step instruction in the techniques for using inlay to weave letters and words in cloth.

Combining the Accuquilt system with fusible wonder-under takes the fuss out of creating an applique design. Janet will have several dies for students to use to create an applique basic of your own design. This is a wonderful project to use those smaller pieces of cherished quilt "scraps" that you just can't part with!

Special Notes: This Quilt Block Party class will use the Accuquilt Cutting System. A list of fabric requirements will be sent out prior to class. Expected materials cost will vary based on the class. Students will need to bring their own sewing machine.

In this class you will use two variegated yarns to create a scarf with color that will look like it was designed by a master weaver. The basic weaving techniques on a rigid heddle loom will be demonstrated. You will make a 54" scarf with fringe.

This is another class that lets you reuse and save! In this class you will create several cloth towels, the size of a paper towel. They can be snapped together and placed on a roll to be ready when you need one. Wash and dry and replace on the roll. Pair this class with Janet?s Cloth Napkins class on August 12 and have a coordinating look in your kitchen!
