This lap quilt is fast and easy and requires no quilting. Three layers of flannel are used to add warmth and color. The Acuquilt system does all the cutting for you. This lap quilt could be a memory quilt with the inclusion of bits of cloth from the clothing of a loved one. Perhaps clothes your child wore as a baby can be included, bringing back memories of their childhood. You could also fussy cut a flannel fabric with fun images and create an "eye spy" quilt. It is a high-yield, space-saving and time-saving gardening technique. Come learn from a pro, watch nature do her work, and then come back during the summer to tend your garden and harvest your efforts. Though the class is geared to vegetable gardening, the techniques discussed are applicable to other types of gardening as well. What is your favorite vision of Nature? Is it the sunshine, birds, flowers, or a particular scene? Bring your idea or sketch along to this workshop, and capture your image in tile, stone and glass to create a colorful artwork that will enhance your garden or yard for years to come. Beginner to experienced artists welcome! Students will utilize brightly colored porcelain tiles, as well as glass tiles, stained glass, seashells and pebbles. (Bring a couple of permanent items to add to your project, if you'd like!) Kate has all the "tesserae," tools and expertise you'll need to shape your pieces and set them in mortar, which will comprise our first day of work. Day two will be a shorter day, grouting and admiring your finished piece, which will be ready to take home! Artist Kate Hartley, who created the North Creek Mosaic Project Mural with over 2000 volunteers, will guide you in bringing your own vision into mosaic form.
